If you’re looking to purchase one of the many bike repair stands (sometimes known as bike work stands) on the market today, my reviews of the best repair stands currently for sale out there on the web should answer any of your questions…
Personally, I wouldn’t have even looked at buying a bike stand until about two years ago, when my finances took a hit. Cutting costs drastically meant performing the repairs on my own, complete with my own bike repair kit and work stand. My cycling schedule – and bank balance – have never looked better!
I would heartily recommend purchasing a stand if you’re looking to cut repair costs and have the time and just a bit of bike repair knowledge. If you’re semi-serious about your biking and are often out on the road/in competition, a work stand is a MUST, at least in my opinion. The perfect solution for your bike and your pocket can be found in my reviews below.
My recently launched Buying Guide will certainly point you in the right direction, as it summarizes the main features, ratings and prices of the leading bike repair stands on the market today. It should be of great help for those of you confused at the sheer volume of stands out there. NEW: I’d highly recommend checking out this article- these are the THREE best bike stands for 2017 I can heartily recommend!
If you’re a beginner but looking for quality, then the Feedback Sport Bike Repair Stand is a great option. Feedback is a great, well-trusted brand. Another great option is the bestselling Park Tool PCS-10 repair stand (currently on offer at 20% off on online stores like Amazon!).
We’ve also just added our bike repair video tips series, where we show you how to perform common bike repair tasks. And if you really want to go all the way with your bike repair, this great series of videos is a must-try!
With spring/summer here once again, now is the perfect time to once again think about buying a bike repair stand.
The racing season is in full flow during the summer months, and, unfortunately, so are those repairs! If you’re serious about your biking, a repair stand for bikes is really what you need in your toolbox (though I doubt it will squeeze in – you know what I mean…).
The bike stands I’ve chosen are the best of the bestsellers online at stores such as Amazon, and from my own experience you really can’t go wrong with any one of these…
In no particular order…
Park Tool PCS-10
If you’re going to be needing something a bit heavy-duty and want assurances that your new bike repair stand will stand up to the task, then purchase the Park Tool PCS-10 Home Repair Stand (see our full review).
It’s no surprise that this little beast from Park Tool is up there – typically at number one – on the bestseller lists. Fixing your bike with this stand becomes a joy and you really can’t go wrong if you add it to your toolkit!
The Feedback Sport-Mechanic bike stand (read our full review) is one of the sleeker stands out there, and one that certainly fits within the budget of most hobbyists. Especially useful is its ability to go from a large unfolded stand to a compact unit that folds neatly and easily.
This particular Feedback model is also light and easy to move around, a big advantage over many other bike stands out there. With the Feedback name to support it, this is another great choice that won’t let you down.
Park Tool PRS-20
The Park Tool PRS-20 Team Race Stand (see our full review) is possibly the ultimate repair bike stand on the market today. Not cheap, typically coming in at just over $200, this stand has some quality credentials to support its case: it was originally designed for use by the Tour de France-winning Discovery Channel Professional Cycling Team!
If price is no object for you and you’re after quality, this has to be your choice of repair stand.
Bubbling just outside this Top 3 bestseller list, you could always try the Topeak Tune-up stand – we were very impressed with its holding capability that enables it to take up to FOUR bikes!
What’s every professional cyclist’s greatest fear? Having participated in many cross-country bicycle races, I can safely say that bicycle malfunctions en-route to the finish line are the most crushing thing that can happen to any cyclist. I once saw my position in a mountain bike race slip from third to last after my bicycle gears got damaged and I could not perform the appropriate repairs in time to finish the race.
After that unfortunate incident, I resolved that I would never again lose a race due to technical screw-ups. I did plenty of research, the fruits of which you can see on this website, and found that the Feedback brand was high up on the list of faves for many cycling pros. In turn, I discovered this one, the Feedback Sports Pro Elite Repair Stand, complete with many other satisfied online reviews from many customers, so I decided to give it a shot. I’ve taken it with me on several races and am so much more confident when out on a circuit, knowing I have one of the top bike repair stands on the market.
What’s to like about the Sports Pro Elite from Feedback?
If you’re going to take your bike maintenance stand with you on races, it needs to be extremely portable and the Pro Elite stand definitely scores on that count. It weighs only 13 pounds, meaning that it hardly contributes to my airline baggage limits when I’m travelling via air for races. It can be folded up and stored in a compact bag when not in use. Although I take it on every race, it’s so portable I barely even notice it’s there.
At a feather-light 13 pounds, I didn’t have high expectations about this bike repair stand’s stability and harbored a fair amount of cynicism towards the manufacturer’s claims that the bicycle stand could support bikes weighing up to 85 pounds. But for once, I was not the victim of false marketing.
This bicycle stand was really extremely sturdy as it was built from professional-grade metal components (to be more precise: rust-proof, red-anodized 6000 series aluminum tubing). It was also incredibly stable, chiefly due to the patented Secure-Lock clamp which uses a ratchet action to lock the bicycle firmly in place. Even when I was performing vigorous repairs, my bicycle remained still instead of wobbling about. Most of the sturdier bicycle stands I’ve encountered use complicated screw mechanisms to keep the bicycle in place, making it very difficult to get a bike in and out of the stand.
In stark contrast, the Secure-Lock clamp is really easy to release. A quick push of a button is all it takes to set your bike free. This is really important during races when every second lost could cost you a place on the victory podium. You can easily set up the Pro Elite repair stand, perform your repairs and pack up in a matter of minutes, allowing you to continue your race with minimal time wastage.
I only have one minor gripe about this bike stand. I found that the ratchet head became stuck more frequently after a month of use. A little lubricant solved the problem, so if you intend to buy this stand, please remember to lubricate the ratchet mechanism every week or so to keep the bicycle stand in good working condition.
Bang for your hard-earned buck?
Absolutely! Overall, this Feedback Pro Elite Bicycle Repair Stand is a truly excellent bike stand for its portability and sturdiness and I would highly recommend it for avid cyclists everywhere. I believe there are other color options, but personally, love the awesome red it seems to come in by default.
It will set you back around $200, but in my opinion, worth it. A very solid 9/10 for this one, and certainly another option to think about if you like Feedback stands!
One last thing to consider: this repair stand is one of the most highly rated stands out there. Just look at some of the reviews on Amazon for this (click the link below), and its amazing 4.9/5 rating. Certainly the most highly rated we’ve come across – see more ratings in our Buying Guide.
We know that if you’ve been looking at this site for a decent bike repair stand, that you’re probably also into bike repairs in a biggish way 🙂
While we all like to think that we know our rear axle from our cranksets, we recently came across a set of videos that might just be the ultimate guide to DIY bike repair.

What We Like:
– An All-In-One Product
DIYBikeRepair covers almost everything you need to know about bike repair. Whether you need a simple fix or an upgrade, DIYBikeRepair handles it. The great thing about it is the all-inclusive nature of the training which comprises of videos and manuals. It makes things a lot easier when you have someone explaining concepts to you.
– Great bonuses
I also enjoyed the bonuses that is included in the offer. The extra manuals is well worth the original price.
The 60 day money back guarantee is always appreciated. I like seeing a merchant who stands behind their product 100%. It puts the consumer at ease, knowing that they aren’t going to lose a cent if they choose to not use the system.
What we Don’t Like
The regular edition has only a small section covering racing bikes. The vast majority of training covers mountain and road biking (which is very extensive!). If you want comprehensive coverage of racing bikes, you should get the VIP deluxe edition.
Do we recommend it?
Absolutely. This is by far the most comprehensive course available on bike repair and maintenance. Other courses are limited in scope and the good ones are only available in book format. DIYBikeRepair goes the extra mile in providing step-by-step videos on top of fully illustrated books.
P.S IMPORTANT NOTE: I’ve just been told, DIYBikeRepair is currently running a huge promotion. Normally it sells for over $150, they have slashed the regular price down to $47…for now.
I’m told the price is going back up within a matter of days. So if you’re at all interested, now is the time to buy this.
If you’re in need of a heavy duty bike stand, the Park Tool PCS-10 Home Repair Stand is one of the industry’s most widely used bike repair stands and it’s not too hard to see why this has become such a bestseller on the web. It’s actually an upgrade from the cheaper PCS-9, but it’s so much more sturdy and stable that repairing your bike with this beauty is almost a pleasure!
This bike stand is awesome for the price (typically around $180), and with the technical specs to get the job done. Most impressive is the cam type clamp, which means attaching your bike can quickly and easily be done in one single action. It lets you clamp tubes from 24mm to 76mm.
You can always replace the jaw covers if needed, and the clamping pressure can be adjusted to fit your own needs, if for example you have a heavy bike, or if one side of it is a lot heavier than the other. There is also a composite top tube, which means there is an easy action 360 degree clamp rotation.
The Park Tool PCS-10 bike repair stand also has quick release height adjustment, so you won’t be screwing and unscrewing to reach from 39 inches to 57 inches height. The Park Tool PCS-10 also stands very securely, what with a three point leg system, letting you get on with the job of repairing your bikes without worrying that it will fall off at any second, or suddenly lurch when you’re applying pressure.
The quick access to the height adjuster is a real time saver and just more convenient. Often when working on the bike you will want to work on parts at different heights, and this allows an easy transition.
Some of the big Park Tool PCS-10 features you’ll want to take advantage of…
The Park Tool PCS-10 stand is an upgrade on the previous bestseller, the PCS-9 Repair stand, and has all the same features PLUS it is so much easier to put up and take down. The improved and enhanced design has actually made the set up and take down much much better – and dead easy for us bike repairers! Don’t miss this great little video explaining just how easy it is to set up the PCS-10.
The Park Tool PCS-10 is easily one of the better bike repair stands out there because it can hold the more awkward and odd shaped tubing, as well as adapting easily from small bikes to large. The holding system even has cleverly positioned grooves on the clamps. This allows the brake lines to continue without being pressed upon or restricted so that you are able to test your brakes.
Stability is another big pro with this repair stand, as there is nothing worse than a wobbly bike repair stand, which moves whenever you put pressure on it. The PCS-10 is also strong and durable. You won’t have to splash out on a new repair stand for a long long time. It is easy to set up and easily portable when folded up. It weighs approximately 25 – 30 lbs so you should have no problems transporting it around.
But…how much bang do I get for my buck?
In short, YES, you get a lot of bang for your buck! The Park Tool PCS-10 stand is really terrific value for those of you taking on repairs yourselves, and it is so much better than the previous Park Tool versions. The stability alone is a BIG plus, and it’s just so much more durable and portable, that you’ll probably never need for another bike stand (unless you’re a semi-pro/pro!). This is a great tool to have in your trunk when out and about on a bike trip. Trust us on that one…
And there’s no doubt that this one is in our list of this summer’s bestsellers!
Because, after all, we’re presuming (going out on a limb here 🙂 ) you’re after a repair stand that will do an outstanding job and yet prove amazing value for money, correct?
We have reviewed most of the leading models on the market today (see some of our reviews here), so have come across many factors that we often take into consideration when looking at what to buy / test.
To help YOU out when you’re choosing a bike repair stand, we’ve compiled a little checklist of the things you should consider:
- First of all – does the stand have a solid base? This is an important factor because you really do need something solid and something that won’t wobble about unnecessarily while you struggle with a bolt or clamp.
- Does the stand have a removable work stand: this is definitely not mandatory, but good to have.
- Does the bike stand have a good locking mechanism so that you can quickly AND easily place your bike in the stand?
- How tough are those clamping jaws? Are they going to dig in deep to your bike and cause it some serious damage? Or are they soft enough to hold your bike firmly in place but still envelope it with a glove of silk
- Can it hold the weight of your bike? If you’ve got a particularly heavy and cumbersome bike, you’ll want to check that the stand can comfortably hold your bike in place.
- Does the stand have a good guarantee/warranty? Many bike stands and leading brands (such as Feedback or Park Tool) typically have a great warranty and no problems whatsoever if a problem arises, but if you’re buying a lesser known model/brand, you should double-check.
- Does the stand have a good name and reputation? It’s always a good idea to check online at stores such as Amazon for some good reviews and feedback for happy customers (or not so happy).
We’ll have to admit that in our testing, the common saying that you get what you pay for is certainly on the mark. The cheaper models out there aren’t often as strong and stable as the more well-known and yes, more expensive, models, so take that into consideration if you’re looking for a bike stand that will be around with you for some time.
Our own recommendation has to be the Park Tool PCS-10. It’s typically priced below $200, and in our view, firmly justifies its status as the bestselling bike repair stand on the market today. It also makes our Top 3 Bike Stand list, which you can read here.
No self-respecting bike enthusiast can get by without making constant tweaks to his prized bicycle(s). I’ve been hunting down repair stands for some years now, and this Topeak Two Up TuneUp Bike Stand fits the bill perfectly. It’s quite simply one of the most feature-packed bike repair stands on the market and at this price – we’re talking just over $200 – it’s an absolute steal.
Without a doubt, this bicycle stand’s greatest draw is its unusually large storage capability. Out of the box, the stand can hold two bicycles and it is capable of holding up to four bikes if you purchase additional mounts.
For bike collectors like me with an insatiable appetite for new bicycles, this is a dream come true. I can easily perform modification and repair work on all four of my bicycles at once because this bicycle stand is so incredibly sturdy (and weighing in at just over 12 pounds, that’s a very impressive sturdiness). Unlike many cheaper bicycle work stands which are constructed using plastic or cheap hollow metal tubing, the Topeak Two Up TuneUp Bike Stand is made primarily out of extremely sturdy aluminum tubing. When I’m working on my bicycles with power tools, the stand doesn’t vibrate at all. That’s really a rare and desirable quality among bicycle repair stands, and definitely a solid reason for the higher price tag.
This awesome Topeak stand has also been instrumental in helping me keep my bikes modified and in tip-top shape, as well as the bikes of other family members! I like that this bike stand can be folded up when it’s not in use. Since I live in a rather small apartment, I can’t spare the space to set up a permanent work stand for my bicycles (it’s on the list, but we’re still working on it!). So I only take out this Topeak repair stand when I need to clean, repair or modify my bikes.
In addition, by allowing me to stack my bikes two at a time, this bike stand has spared me the incessant nagging of my girlfriend to sell a couple of my bicycles and clear up some space in the apartment. My beloved bicycles now take up much less space than before!
Some of the must-have features on this beast include:
- Mounts for two bikes and one handlebar stabilizer included (you can buy an additional mount to hold a total of 4 bikes)
- Perfect for road, MTB and sloping top tube designs
- A handle-bar stabilizer prevents your front wheel from spinning during modifications
- Awesome – and yes, even sexy – design includes a freestanding tripod base, which also folds up so can be easily stored when not in use (or when your partner starts complaining!)
- Quick-release feature for extra convenience
After such a glowing start to this review, are there any cons to buying this stand from Topeak? Well, to be completely honest, it’s a little more expensive than your average bike stand (though still cheaper than stands like the latest PCS4 from Park Tool or the PRS-20, also from Park Tool). That might put off cyclists who see cycling as a casual hobby rather than a way of life.
However, if you have any desire at all to take cycling and bicycle modification seriously, you’ll find that the extra money you fork out for the Topeak TuneUp stand is very well spent indeed. After all, supermarket-brand repair stands may come at lower prices, but they’re also unstable and typically hold only one bicycle. With bike stands, as with most products, you certainly get what you pay for.
So, bang for you buck with this Topeak stand – or not?
This latest addition to my bicycle work arsenal is truly indispensable. It saves me a ton of space, speeds up my bike maintenance work and is definitely one of the more reasonably-priced bicycle stands in its class. You won’t find a better multi-storage bike stand at this price anywhere, so if you are an avid cyclist and bike mechanic who owns more than one bike, get the Two Up TuneUp Bike Stand. You won’t regret it.
This Park Tool PRS-20 Team Race Stand comes with impressive credentials, being originally designed for use by the Tour de France-winning Discovery Channel Professional Cycling Team.
And since I’ve been looking for high quality bicycle repair stands for years now, I’m pleased to report that this bike repair stand is every bit as effective as its credentials suggest.
Why is this bike stand such a star?
When you’re performing delicate repair or maintenance work on your bicycle, the last thing you want is for your bike to move about. If your hands slip, you can easily injure yourself or damage your bike.
Many of the bicycle stands I’ve encountered were way too unstable for me but happily, the PRS-20 Team Race Stand does not belong in this category. It is able to hold my bicycle securely in place using a combination of quick-release mounts attached to either the front or rear dropout and a vinyl-covered cradle which is used to stabilize the bottom bracket.
At 19 pounds, it is probably one of the heavier bicycle stands around, but to professional cyclists and bike mechanics like me, the heavier weight is definitely a fair trade-off for the additional stability. What’s a couple of pounds in exchange for greater safety?
If there’s one thing I hate about performing bicycle repairs, it’s having to maneuver my way around the bicycle to access different bike parts. It may seem like a minor quibble, but it’s a complete waste of time as far as I’m concerned and can lead to some pretty nasty back and neck aches too. That’s why I was so delighted to find out that this bicycle maintenance stand comes with a platform capable of 360-degree horizontal rotation even when the bottom bracket is locked. Instead of clambering around the bike, I can sit comfortably on my work stool and swivel the platform around when I need to access a different side of the bike.
This feature definitely makes the PRS-20 Team Race Stand one of the more user-friendly bicycle stands around, especially if you perform frequent maintenance work on your bicycle like I do.
I must also commend the Park Tool bike stand design team for the durability of this bicycle work stand. Many of the repair stands I’ve tested or friends have purchased (including the more expensive ones) begin to malfunction after just a year or two, but the PRS-20 is still going strong after two years. I attribute its durability to the chrome plating used to protect high-wear components as well as the industrial-grade blue powder coat finish which protects the bicycle stand from physical wear and tear.
When you first unpack this steel bicycle stand, you immediately expect it to be a really solid piece of equipment and Park Tool has strived not to fall short of their customers’ expectations. I’d say they’ve succeeded big time.
If you’re looking for a bicycle stand to help you perform your bicycle maintenance work, I cannot recommend the Park Tools PRS-20 Team Race Stand highly enough. It’s swiftly become my bike stand of choice and an indispensable part of my bicycle maintenance arsenal. It also makes our Top 3 bestseller list, rather easily…
Price-wise it’s not the cheapest at just over $200, but there’s a price you have to pay for the pure advantages this bike stand gives you. It’s a definite alternative to the bestselling PCS-10, also from the Park Tool stable of bike repair stands, and also a great alternative to the Topeak Tuneup stand, the repair stand that can hold up to FOUR bikes!
